Mordecai sent this reply to Esther: “Don’t think for a moment that because you’re in the palace you will escape when all other Jews are killed. If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” -- Esther 4:13-14 NLT
Queen Esther - Summary
After the Persian King Ahasuerus banished his queen Vashti, a beautiful young Jewish girl named Esther was selected queen. Her presence at court becomes a matter of great importance to her people when Haman, a court official, hatches a plan to destroy all Jews in the empire. Mordecai, her cousin and foster parent, pleads with her to approach the king and ask for her life, as well as all Jews in the empire. Mordecai knows that God has placed Esther in this position just as Joseph was placed in Egypt to save his family.
Entering the
throne room without being summoned was a capital offense and Esther had not been
summoned for almost a month. She told Mordecai along with all the Jews in the
city to fast and pray with her for three days. At that time, Esther agreed to go
before Ahasuerus by saying, "If I perish, I perish."
After three days of seeking God,
Esther could boldly go before the king. She entered the throne room and Ahasuerus extended the scepter allowing Esther to approach.
After, inviting Ahasuerus
and Haman to a banquet, she revealed her identity as a Jew and asked that her
people be saved.
Haman was delivered to the gallows he had built for Mordecai for assaulting
Esther. And Ahasuerus
promoted Mordecai to Haman's old position. Letters were written to Jews living
across the empire giving them the right to defend themselves against Haman's
evil plan. The Jews escaped the slaughter and celebrate Purim in remembrance of
their deliverance. The holiday is named for the way Haman selected the day for
their destruction, by casting lots.

And the king loved Esther more than all the women,
and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the maidens, so that

Now when the turn for Esther the daughter of Abihail,
the uncle of Mordecai who had taken her as his own daughter, had come to go in

keeper of the women, suggested. And Esther won favor in the sight of all who saw
her. --
